World Star
Congratulations to club president, Ben Swift on his Fourth place in the Under 23 World Championship Road Race in Italy.
Ben in Pez
The Club President, Ben Swift, was interviewed recently in Pez Cycling News, an American website. The interview can be read here
Ben the King
The Tour of Britain had finished and Ben Swift, the President of the club, finished second in the King of the Mountains competition, just a six points behind the winner, Danilo di Luca. Putting this into perspective, he was six points behind the winner of last year's Giro d'Italia, and previous winner of the Fleche Wallonne, Liege Bastogne Liege and Tour of Lombardy. It was a great performance by Ben... well done again for your excellent results!!!
Vive Le Mossley
A dozen members of the club recently crossed the channel for a week’s holiday in Normandy. It got off to a great start when the owner of the gites told Wendy that she had booked for one adult and eleven children!
Finally, when it was finally agreed who was sleeping where, the bar gained some well needed custom!
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t so good for the cycling, but there was plenty of war memorabilia to keep the members from getting bored!!! The villages were lovely and the natives were friendly.
There are plans to go somewhere similar next year... keep your eyes and ears posted for a memorable weekend away.
Note: if you see Chaddy, please remind him that he owes Wendy a bottle of wine!
Racing Roundup
Clayton Vale Mountain Bike Race U16's: James McGillick performed very well and in a strong field gained a more than creditable 7th place
U14's: Drew Fitton and Connor McGillick rode an extremely good race. Connor beset with problems with his bike dropped a few places whilst a bike swap was organised but went on to do a brilliant ride, finishing in 11th place. Drew went very well from the start and after a solid ride came home in 8th.Emma Hayes finished as 4th Girl.
U12's: Here we had Mitchell Cross, Ryan McGillick and Peter Scragg racing. Ryan had problems with his bike but this let him down during the race and TT. After a bike change in the main race he ripped through the field coming from near last to finish 16th. Well done Ryan for not climbing off after all the problems. Peter Scragg rode well finishing in 9th place overall. Mitchell lost his rear tyre during the race and fought back well to finnish in 9th place.
U10's: Katie Lawrence's first race and finished as 2nd Girl well done Katie. Reece Player rode well but was hampered by the lack of equipment yet still finished in a creditable 10th place.

Ribble Valley 3 Day All our riders performed as normal in this 1st day TT race, some small improvements but they rode well. Day 2&3 Preston U16's:James McGillick raced well in fierce competition and turned in an excellent result on day 3 where he finished in 6th. U14's: Connor turned in some good performances under the circumstances U12's: Mitchell Cross and Ryan McGillick both performed well. Day 2 Ryan was in 5th position with a couple of laps to go when someone took his front wheel out and Ryan ended up over the bars. With road rash to his leg and badly shaken he was in no fit state to continue (luckily this happened in the start/finish area and medical assistance was swiftly at the scene). Mitchell Cross excelled himself He achieved a great time in the first stage. The second stage saw a brilliant effort and result for Mitch, who stayed right at the front of the main bunch all the way through the race! With such stiff competition, including very strong riders form Ireland, Mitch pulled out all the stops and did fantastic! Well done Mitchell! As you can tell all our riders did really well especially in the 3 Day where the competition was very very strong across all age groups.

OK... not an event
After the recent club hill climbs I'm sure that our grimpeurs will be looking forward to future climbs. If so, they may like to see a decent clip of the 17km Col du Tourmalet climb...
